Vietnam’s Free Healthcare Push: What International Patients Should Know About the Country’s Health System
Now, this doesn’t directly apply to international patients visiting for dental or medical tourism. But it tells you something important about the direction Vietnam’s healthcare system is heading — and it’s firmly upward.
The investment in public health infrastructure has a trickle-down effect on private clinics like ours. Training standards for healthcare professionals keep rising. New hospitals and specialist centers are opening. Medical equipment suppliers see Vietnam as a growth market, which means the latest technology becomes available faster and at better prices than you might expect.
Vietnam’s Ministry of Health has also been collaborating with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to formally develop medical tourism as a product line — that’s not just talk, it’s written into the 2026 national tourism strategy. The government recognizes that international patients bring value, and they’re actively working to make the experience smoother.
For us at Picasso Dental, we’ve operated in this environment since 2013. We’ve watched Vietnam’s healthcare system evolve from the inside, and it gives us confidence that the broader ecosystem supporting our patients — from hospitals for any emergency needs, to pharmacies, to specialist referrals — is getting stronger every year.
